How to stay active during COVID-19

Much to our dismay, COVID-19 is going on and on…and on. We get it, we have to be in lockdown for the greater good. But it still sucks.

Worst of all is that gyms are shut, and getting outside to exercise can be tricky. Most of us feel a bit uncomfortable exercising in public, and the thought of going outside in the current climate isn’t too appealing. This can mean that motivation to exercise and stay fit is at an all time low.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are some amazing parks and open spaces where you can exercise. Plus, your lounge or garden can also work too. All you really need is your body weight and a little motivation and you can fit in some killer workouts during lockdown.

Why is motivation to exercise so low during COVID?

First of all, don’t beat yourself up if you’ve fallen off the wagon. To be honest, most people have. COVID-19 has brought uncertain times and as we lose our normal routine of going to work, hitting the gym and socialising with friends, we can lose motivation to workout too.

Factors that can affect activity during lockdowns:

  • Being in a space that you don’t associate with exercise (aka – home)
  • Feeling nervous or anxious which can be limit all exercise
  • Falling out of routine and struggling to get back into things
  • Having a busier home schedule (such as having to juggle homeschooling, working from home and workouts)

Ways to stay active during COVID-19

Here are some ideas on how to stay active during lockdown and keep that smile on your face. You’ve got this ?

  • Buy some at-home fitness equipment

Support a local business and buy something sustainable that will boost your workouts. Great options include glute bands, exercise bands, yoga mats and light weights that can be used at home. Why not invest in some fitness gear that will boost your motivation?

  • Follow YouTube videos

It’s so much easier when you’re following a workout on YouTube.

– Share your progress on social media

Social media can be a great tool to keep you motivated and accountable. Why not share your workouts and your progress on social media and connect with likeminded people who can cheer you on?

We’re all in this together, and social media can be a great place to find motivation. Follow us on Instagram @20perfit and tag us in your workouts. We’ll always support you ?

  • Get outside

Walking, running, jumping, skipping, swimming. Whatever you’re into, be sure to get outside and breathe every now and again.

During lockdown it can be so easy to stay indoors, but exercising outside is one of the best options and can give you a huge boost. As long as you’re safe and socially distanced, an outdoor workout can be one of the best things.

  • Try something gentle

When you’re feeling anxious or low, sometimes the last thing you need is a hardcore workout. During these stressful periods, why not try something more gentle like yoga?

Regulating your breathing, stretching and feeling connected to the world around you can sometimes be the best way to move your body in lockdown.

  • Don’t give up on yourself!

Remember that half the battle is mental. Just getting started is an amazing achievement, so be sure to give yourself credit. Planning your routine out each week can be a great way to stay accountable and commit to exercising during lockdown.

Training during COVID-19

It can be really challenging to keep training during lockdowns. Momentum and motivation are often low, but training 1-1 with a PT can be a great way to keep your spirits high.

If you want to keep training in person, we are offering 1-1 mobile EMS training sessions outdoors. We are currently able to workout in line with government regulations, using masks, social distancing and working within a 5km radius.

Call us on 1300 202073 or send an email to info@20perfit.com.au to find a trainer in your 5km radius.
